At **Know Your Neighbourhood**, we are committed to protecting the privacy and security of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your personal information when you use our mobile application and web portal.
By accessing or using our services, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not access our application.
1. Information Collection
We collect information directly provided by you during registration and during your active usage of the platform to facilitate community features:
- **Profile Information:** Your first name, last name, email address, mobile number, house/flat number, occupant type (owner/tenant), and profile photo.
- **Community Contributions:** Notice postings, urgent alerts, business listings (business name, services, business phone, email), comments, likes, and lost & found reports.
- **Device Data:** We collect your Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token to send security alerts and push notifications.
2. Use of Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- To verify your residency and authenticate your login.
- To enable notice boards, directory searches, and business discoveries within the society.
- To broadcast critical, urgent notifications and safety alerts to the community.
- To process, moderate, and track complaints submitted to the committee.
- To contact you regarding account approvals, rejections, or notifications.
3. Information Sharing
Because this is a private community tool, your data is visible to other verified members of your society via the directory search to encourage neighbourly communication. We do NOT sell or share your data with external third-party advertisers or aggregators.
Administrators have access to all registered details to manage approvals, assign roles, and handle complaints resolution.
4. Data Security
We use secure industry-standard encryption, SSL protocols, and access management restrictions to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, theft, loss, or manipulation.
However, no electronic transmission over the internet or database storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your profile data as long as your account remains active. If you wish to delete your account, you can request account deletion via the mobile app or directly on our public portal.
Upon verifying your password and executing a deletion request, your account status is set to `deactivated`, all API tokens are revoked, and your record is immediately soft-deleted, removing it from all public lists and member queries.
6. User Rights & Choices
As a member, you have the right to:
- Access and update your profile information (photo, name, occupant status) in settings.
- Toggle push notifications by enabling/disabling permissions in your phone settings.
- Deactivate or request deletion of your member history at any time.
